Was asked a tough question last night

Lying in bed, MrsZtp asked me “if you could have one classic car to own, regardless of price, what would it be?”. She knows I’d love to own classic car, but I was surprised she was humoring me. I had to think a bit about what I really wanted.

First i said a Torino, then a early ‘70s Ranchero. Then I suggested a ‘67 fastback Mustang, or a ‘71 sportsroof Mustang. Well I kept thinking and eventually figured out two cars I’d love to own, either a ae86 Trueno or a Baja bug; then I discovered I really wanted a Baja bug.

Besides being a manual and rwd, it’s a off-road vehicle which means I can take it out for fun. And it’s not really a highly sought after collectable car (at least to my knowledge), so a few dings on it won’t make me feel bad inside. And the engine is out in the open, so tinkering with it should be easy (once I figure out how). It also can be decorated with multiple lights, which is something I’ve always wanted to do with a car. Also a backseat is there, despite not having four doors ( ok, it lost points there, but still). And unlike my other suggestions, I’d imagine since it’s a vw, parts wouldnt be too difficult to acquire.

Gosh, wow, a lot of people told me yesterday that I have a practical mindset. Even with choosing a classic car, I use the most practical approach. Well, here’s to wishing. *cheers*

If having 4 doors is important there’s always baja Thing. Although those are probably harder to come by if you’re not willing to build one yourself.

Yeah, I took the availability of each item into consideration, as bugs seem to be a dime a dozen compared to the others on the list.

Never heard of a baja thing though, sounds interesting.

But wouldn’t I feel guilty about damaging it? It’s not a question of ‘if’, it’s more of a question of ‘when’ I give the car dings and scratches. Plus I’m trying to think 5 steps ahead. And I really enjoy how quirky the baja bug looks.

Going to has to chose a Stratos! With a little bigger engine and maybe a LS, keep original to change back, but LS for reliability I would drive this everywhere!
